Rapid Prototype Development for Scalable Contact Tracing Web App

Project Orion: Contact Tracing Designed for Scale

THE OBJECTIVE

Design and develop a Covid-19 contact tracing web application to fill the gap in contact tracing manpower.
ROLE: UX Designer

THE PROCESS

USER RESEARCH

As a team, we conducted interviews with several county officials involved in contact tracing to understand where there were pain points and areas for improvement.
"There is no formal system of communication, just conversations back and forth."
____
"The biggest bottleneck is absolutely the lack of manpower."

SITE MAP

We determined the most important features to implement first based on our research and developed a high-level site map.

WIREFRAMING + PROTOTYPING

With time of the essence, we hit the ground running. I created wireframes of our design, and we swiftly started prototyping Project Orion in order to share it with medical professionals ASAP to obtain valuable user feedback.
__________
"It looks really nice, but medical professionals are not going to understand the color coding with so many colors."

ITERATION

We took the feedback from our product demo and adjusted our color coding in order to more effectively communicate with county medical officials.

THE RESULTS

NEXT STEPS

After several months of working toward on this project, we ultimately could not compete with another contact tracing app in development by a much larger company. Our next step from here would have been to begin development on an MVP in order to conduct more usability testing and continue to iterate upon our product.
